A deciduous tree native to east and northeast Asia.  The name refers to the thick and corky bark.  It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine - Huang Bai - but one that should be used with care.  Grows in full sun and in most any soil.  2 months cold stratification, Sow Early Spring.
